For delta modernization works, the canals will be closed for 45 days from May 30. As like last year, the water would be released to canals on June 1. The decision was taken by the Advisory Council meeting held in Kakinada in November last year before Rabi started. Delta's modernization tasks are to be closed on March 31 and up to 60 days form May 30. The Delta modernization works only 45 days after the release of water for an additional 15 days to the request of farmers. This year Water Resources officials planned to make 2,020 jobs with 308 crores. Delta modernization wroks will d0 370 works under Rs.173 crores. The expansion of water for Rabi crop ended on Sunday with the expiry date of March 31 as the preliminary determination on March 31 was extended to ten days prior to farmers' appeal, and another five days, till April 15. Currently 5,500 cusecs of water are released to the east, central and western delta channels. In June one of the officials released the water to the canals, but there was no result of modernization work.
DELTA MODERNIZATION WORKS ARE STARTED
The contractors have been given a full-fledged water for 15 days as the contractors have been forced to work around the place. Fortunately, in October, due to the lack of tropics, the harvest was delayed and there was no loss.
